Being a foodie chef for as long as I can remember, becoming a nurse/health educator and transformational lifestyle coach, being plant-based myself, my love for hot dogs, my desire to see healthier food options in our communities, and creating a bigger why were the roads that led to the leap of faith and launch of Food for Thought Café and Carrot Dog.
Somewhere between watching my mother in the kitchen, public television cooking shows and easy bake ovens, I unearthed my culinary artist and foodie. And, since being a kid growing up in Augusta, GA, I have always loved hot dogs. What I didn’t enjoy later on in life, was not really knowing what I was eating in a hot dog. I have been plant-based for number of years. So, I wanted to create a damn good, guilt-free plant-based, all vegan dog.
In the healthcare arena, I’ve served many clients who have had challenges with hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, heart disease and diabetes, yet lack the diet and lifestyle habits to support their health. I think about the parallel of those same health disparities having a significant presence in underserved and communities of color, and how Carrot Dog can serve as a platform to expand the conversation about the benefits of choosing a healthy lifestyle.
And, perhaps true to the law of attraction, I stumbled upon this “carrot dog” concept in 2015 while visiting Peace n' Loaf Café in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I took the concept of the “carrot dog” to my kitchen lab in 2016 and launched three years later in May 2019.
Food For Thought Cafe' is a restaurant group creating nostalgic, creative and fast-casual culinary experiences in plant-based cuisine. We aim to provide guilt-free alternatives to comfort, classic and fast food. Our mission is to inspire healthier communities and an overall culture of health though awareness, powerful conversations, and fun, creative vegan food. Utilizing organic and locally sourced products, our chef creates delicious fast-casual food concepts, homemade juices and from scratch desserts. Our premiere plant-based, fast-casual concept, Carrot Dog, is a spin on the American classic hot dog, featuring small-batch, craft plant-based hot dogs.
Food For Thought's second offering is The Soup Bar, offering an eclectic array of rotating vegan soups. The Soup Bar offers vegan soups that will feed your spirit and comfort your soul.
